Hey all! Today, I want to talk about something that really changed my life: overcoming decision fatigue. You know, that feeling when you have to make so many choices in a day that you just start to feel tired and overwhelmed? Yep, that's decision fatigue. I found some cool ways to manage it, and I'm happy to share them with you!
First off, let me tell you a bit about my story. Without help, I’m a pretty disorganized person. I’d figure things, meetings, events, things I told someone I would do. It was embarrassing and I felt bad for letting people down. This is where I started using various tools and technologies to help me become much more effective and productive. What I also recognized was also a lot of the things I was doing weren’t productive or effective. It was causing me so much stress! This is where I came across the idea of decision fatigue. Here’s a few things I now do to help improve my life on a daily basis:
1. Streamline Your Wardrobe
One of the first things I did was streamline my wardrobe. Example - I found a style of shirt that I really liked, and guess what? I bought it in every color. I have 6 pairs of the same shoe, too, in different colors. It's all about keeping it simple and sticking with what you love.
2. The Big Daily 3
Over the past 5 years or so, I came upon Michael Hyatt's "Big Daily 3" mentality for managing tasks. Each day, I pick three main tasks that I need to accomplish. As long as I get those done, I consider it a successful day. It's amazing how focusing on just three tasks can make you feel so much more productive and less stressed.
3. Focus on What You Can Control
Stoic philosophy also played a big part in my journey. It taught me to focus only on the things I can control and let go of the rest. I used to waste so much energy worrying about trying to change other people's decisions or opinions. No more! Now, the desire is on just what I can control.
"You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength." - Marcus Aurelius
4. Build a Morning Routine
Lastly, I established a morning routine that I do every day to start the day off right. I have a set time for waking up, morning drink, coffee, bible reading, planner and review. Having a routine takes the guesswork out of what I should be doing and when, making my days run much smoother.
So, there you have it—my top 4 strategies for overcoming decision fatigue. By simplifying your choices and focusing on what's truly important, you can make your day-to-day life a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. Trust me, if I can do it, so can you!
